We had a good turnout for the Seward Highway cleanup on September 10th. Ten members and one spouse! With Jody Liddicoat coordinating, David Alexander, Gene Bjornstad, Ron Burson, Larry Daniels, Ginny Grupp, Lana Johnson, Diana and Phil Livingston, Cece Preston and Jody’s husband, Tom Manos were able to finish the job in record time, hopefully restoring some of the pristine beauty back into Alaska roads proximity for everyone to enjoy.
Along with the normal tire rubber and assorted other car parts were the perennial cigarette butts and beer bottles obviously tossed from cars with total disregard to the environment, good taste and without any semblance of common sense. The grossest pieces collected were the slimy and putrid rib cage and assorted bones from a moose someone had dumped in the first turnout after passing Virgin Creek. Diana had the dubious honor of discovering this particularly disgusting bit of trash. Dumped with the moose bones were old window frames, broken glass, beer bottles, camel cigarette packages and building materials.
A resounding vote of appreciation and congratulations must go to Jody for doing such a great job of organizing this event.
