Girdwood Rotary Club (31180)
July 7, 2005
The meeting was called to order by Acting President Chuck May at approximately 7:15 pm with Gene Bjornstad leading the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Chuck May offering the following from Ralph Waldo Emerson as an inspirational message.
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

Announcements:
· President David Alexander will return on July 23. There will be a BOD meeting following the regular meeting on the 23rd.
· The Forest Fair Daylodge parking beverage sale net proceeds were $141.27. The contribution from the Forest Fair Committee will be in several months and is estimated to be from $1000 to $2000, depending on the profitability of the Fair.
· Gerry (Gary) Underhill from the Delphi, Indiana Rotary Club and his wife, Fay, stopped by the Forest Fair Daylodge parking lot and, to our surprise, donated the car he had bought to drive to Alaska to our Rotary Club. Gene picked up the car yesterday, July 7th.
· Senator Stevens and the Postmaster General agreed that there should be a bulletin board for public use at the new Post Office. Larry Daniels suggested that we seize the opportunity to publicize the Girdwood Rotary Club by sponsoring the bulletin board. A committee was formed consisting of Ron Burson, Ken Hatch, Ginny Grupp, Jody Liddicoat and Larry Daniels to follow up on this as soon as possible.
· A committee to explore the best way to dispose of the car donated by the Underhill’s was formed consisting of George McCoy, Gene Bjornstad, Larry Daniels, Diana Livingston and Chuck Dorius.
· Ken Osuna will have a program of speakers beginning with the August month. In the meantime, if anyone has ideas for speakers for July, please contact Ken.
· Diana Livingston observed that even though we had not had meals at this meeting, we had still lost about $36 due to the cost of the meeting room ($100) and the number of members in attendance. After a discussion of possible solutions, a committee consisting of Diana Livingston, Kerry Dorius and Jody Liddicoat was formed to get input from all members and present the options available back to the members at a future meeting – possibly as early as next week.
· Ginny Grupp reported on the progress of the Bird to Gird Bike Ride on July 29 and distributed pamphlets and flyers to those present for posting in high profile areas.
